Restore mailbox or deleted emails from the backup

Accidentally deleted emails, emptied a folder, or thrown away an entire mailbox? Every night we make a backup of your hosting package or mail package, including all mailboxes. You can restore a mailbox yourself, for free, from the backups of the past 30 days. Your website and your other mailboxes stay exactly as they are.

Restoring deleted emails in your mailbox

  1. Log in at my.weboke.nl/backups (in the menu: My Products > WebOké Backups).
  2. Account: choose the package that contains the mailbox and click Next.
  3. Moment: choose a backup from before the moment the emails disappeared. If you're not sure exactly when, choose a day earlier.
  4. Components: only check Email (mailboxes) and below that select only the mailbox you want back, for example info@yourdomain.nl.
  5. Method: choose Only restore what's missing or changed.
  6. Confirm: check the summary, enter your password, and click Start restore.

The deleted emails will return to the mailbox, in the folders where they were. Emails you received after the chosen moment will simply stay in place. You'll receive an email as soon as the restore is complete. This is usually done within a few minutes, though a large mailbox may take longer.

Take a look first: the backup as a separate mailbox

Not sure which backup you need, or don't want to change anything in your current mailbox? Then choose As a copy alongside the current one under Method. Under Name of new mailbox, enter a name, for example restore. The backup will then be placed in that new mailbox, with the same password as the original mailbox. Set up that mailbox in your mail program or open it in webmail, and drag the emails you need back into your own mailbox. Then delete the copy again, since it counts toward your storage space. This can be done for one mailbox at a time.

Restoring a deleted mailbox

Did you delete a mailbox in DirectAdmin? Follow the same steps as above and under Components select the mailbox that no longer exists. It will come back with the mail that was in it at the chosen moment. Also check the mail settings if you want the forwarding addresses, filters, and autoresponders from that moment back as well.

Good to know

  • 30 days. We keep a backup from every night of the past 30 days. Emails that disappeared longer ago can no longer be retrieved.
  • Only what existed overnight. An email that arrived and was deleted again on the same day is not included in a backup.
  • Emails only on your computer. If you use POP3, your mail program retrieves the mail from the server, and it sometimes only remains on your computer. Those emails are then not included in our backup.
  • Don't choose Full restore. This will remove everything that arrived after the chosen moment. For mail, Only restore what's missing or changed is almost always the right choice.
  • Storage space. Restored emails count toward your package's storage again. If your package is almost full, free up space first, see Storage or disk space full: here's how to free up space.

You can read everything about the backups, such as restoring and downloading files or a WordPress site, in WebOké Backups: viewing, restoring, or downloading a backup. If it doesn't work, create a ticket and mention the eight character restore code from Previous restores.
