Chapter 14 · 14.5
Your Nextcloud on your own domain (cloud.yourcompany.com)
By default, your WebOké Nextcloud runs on an address on webokecloud.nl, for example yourname.webokecloud.nl. With all paid Nextcloud packages, you can also use a subdomain of your own domain, such as cloud.yourcompany.nl. That looks more professional and is easy to remember. You arrange this yourself in My WebOké.
| Package | Own subdomain |
|---|---|
| Free | No, your account is on free.webokecloud.nl |
| Personal, Family and Max | Yes, for a small extra amount per term |
How to arrange it
- Open the package page in My WebOké (see The package page in My WebOké).
- On the Use own domain card, enter the address you want, for example cloud.yourcompany.nl, and click Check.
- You'll see which record you need to create: an A record (and possibly an AAAA record) with the IP address of your Nextcloud server. Create that record in the DNS management of your domain.
- If the record works, click Check again. You'll see what it costs: an amount for the rest of your current term and then the amount per term.
- Check that you understand this cannot be undone and click Set up own domain.
The conversion takes a few minutes. During that time, your Nextcloud will be briefly unavailable. If the conversion fails, nothing changes and you pay nothing.
The DNS of your domain
| Situation | What you do |
|---|---|
| Your domain is with WebOké and uses our DNS | You create the record in My WebOké, on the DNS tab of your domain. |
| The DNS of your domain is hosted elsewhere | You create the A record (and possibly the AAAA record) with your DNS manager. Until the record is in place, the new address won't work. |
If the new address points to our server, we automatically create a security certificate (Let's Encrypt). After that, you'll see the lock icon in your browser. If you still get a warning about the connection, read Certificate warning or insecure connection.
What happens to the old address?
The old address on webokecloud.nl keeps working. Anyone using the old address will automatically end up on the new address. Shared links, the desktop app, and the apps on your phone will therefore keep working. Going back to an address on webokecloud.nl is no longer possible after that.
Tip: still set the new address in your apps at a quiet moment. That way you'll work with the same address everywhere and won't depend on the redirect. You can read which apps to check in Moving your Nextcloud to your own domain: what do you need to update in apps afterwards?.
